Ten Ways to Be a Better Soccer Player Just going to practice twice a week won't make you a very good soccer player. You need to play more than that. Here is my top ten list on what you can do on other days to improve your game. 10. Take a ball with you when you walk the dog, or walk to a friend's house. Don't use your hands, of course. 9. Play with two friends -- one is attacker, one is defender, one is the keeper; take turns. 8. Play with one friend, take shots on each other and try to dribble each other. 7. Dribble a ball around the house all the time. 6. Play kick back with a wall, stairs, or whatever you can find. 5. Juggle. 4. Play with your brother, sister, dad, and mom. 3. Play soccer with a bunch of friends after school and on the weekends. 2. Think about what your coach has been teaching you. Practice it on your own and with friends. 1. Watch pro games (on TV or live). [Parents: Please don't ever make a kid play, or nag them -- nothing is more sure to ruin their love for the game. But if you offer to kick a ball around with them, that would be very cool. If you were to start watching the occasional soccer game on TV, you'd learn more about the game, and you could share that time with your kids. Taking them to a pro or college game would be a lot of fun for everyone, too.] |
